Whitecourt Jets host Bantam provincials ( 3/16/2010 )

The Bantam AA Whitecourt Carlan Jets will take on all comers from around Alberta this weekend at the Bantam provincials.

Games begin on Saturday at 10am with the Jets and Fort Saskatchewan Rangers.

Whitecourt will then take on Airdrie on Saturday at 1145, and Fairview at 515.

The semi finals begin on Sunday at 9am, with the finals going at 230 at the Athabasca rink.

Mayerthorpe Basketball ( 3/15/2010 )

The fourth annual Mayerthorpe Community Basketball tournament will take place this Saturday. They will be 20 minute games with carded referees. Two female players need to be on the court at all times.

Entry fee is 200 bucks and prizes are available for everyone. Call Ryan to register. His number is 780-616-4777.

Edson Slo Pitch Annual General Meeting ( 3/15/2010 )

The Edson Mixed Slo Pitch league is holding their AGM on Wednesday March 24th.

Its at 7:30 at the Hospitality room at the Edson arenas.

There will be the election of the executive and discussion of rule changes.

All teams wanting to participate this season must have a representative at the meeting.

Junior fun curling bonspiel ( 3/15/2010 )

Some of XM country's future curlers were on the ice in Whitecourt yesterday for a fun-filled year end bonspiel.

4 teams from the Whitecourt Junior Club and a pair from Fox Creek spent the day playing games and working on their skills.

Throughout the curling year, Whitecourt and Fox Creek have joined up. Fox Creek Junior Coordinator Ronica Deciccio says its been a benifit for both clubs.

Dustin Jendrick with the Whitecourt Club talked abou the day.

And Fox Creek's Jesse Bedson told us his favorite part.

Both curling clubs would like to send a big thank you to all the sponsors who donated prizes for the event.

Minor hockey ( 3/15/2010 )

The Whitecourt Bantam AA Carlan Jets lost the first game of their best of three finals to Slave Lake on the road by a score of 4-1.

The second game will be played later in the month because the Jets will be busy with the Bantam Provincails here in Whitecourt this weekend.

And congradulations to the Whitecourt Canadian Tire Midget A team winning their SPHL championship over Slave Lake!

Wolverines 2 wins away from championship ( 3/15/2010 )

The Whitecourt Wolverines are 2 wins away from successfully defending their NWJHL (Senators Cup) title.

The black and gold blanked Grande Prairie 6-0 on Saturday on home ice, and slapped them 7-2 in GP on Sunday afternoon.

Game 3 goes Wednesday night at the twin arenas in Whitecourt.

The all inclusive 4 night stay to Las Vegas will be drawn. The first 200 people through the door can still get themselves qualified in the draw.

Game 4 will be in Grande Prairie on Friday night.

If you want to ride the fan bus to watch the game, call Cory at 706-5235.

Fallen four hockey game coming up ( 3/14/2010 )

The 5 year anniversary of the fallen four was yesterday.

And the annual Anthony Gordon memorial hockey game is coming up in just over 2 weeks.

The Whitecourt oldtimers will battle the RCMP staff on March 19th at the twin arenas.

The fallen four society is looking for anyone to donate memorobilia for the silent auction.

A tax receipt will be issued.

Edson figure skating showcase ( 3/11/2010 )

The Edson figure skating club is puting on a showcase of their own in the coming weeks.

A star skaters showcase will be hitting the memorial rink on Monday the 22nd from 6-8 pm.

Admission will be a donation, so feel free to head on down and check out some great local talent!
